DVDs for Classroom Scientific Enhancement
Heartland Elementary

What was the purpose of this project? The intent of this project is to provide teachers with nonprint resources that would support curriculum areas. Adding nonprint video/ audio materials helps all children learn. It especially aids the child with lower reading skills and the visually/ auditory modality learning child.

Did the project fulfill that purpose? If so, how? Our school had areas in our science curriculum that were lacking in nonprint resources. These materials helped fill that void.

Please include the number of students involved in this project, grade levels and subject areas covered. Students in grades two through five will benefit from the DVDs. These titles enhance our science curriculum The specific titles ordered are as follows: Food Web, Simple Machines, Invertebrates, Earth's Crust, Erosion, Climates, Wetlands, Science of Music, Measurement; and Forests.

Describe how Foundation funds and this project benefited students. The very day that the DVDs arrived in the library, they began flying off the shelves by teachers. Bill Nye's delivery style and Disney Studio's product quality makes this a definite first choice for enriching concepts or reviewing facts.

Do you feel this project should be replicated in other schools throughout the district? Please explain. The addition of these DVDs for our science curriculum was needed. There is no doubt that other schools could benefit from this type of material.

We my never really know how this medium has inspired a student or changed his/her life. BVEF: Thank you for this simple process to showcase our needs to the community to solicit funds for projects. We would definitely do this again.
