Queen Bees & Wannabes and Real Boys
Harmony Elementary

What was the purpose of this project? Queen Bees & Wanna Bees was facilitated by the Valley Park Elementary Guidance Counselor. Through a parent book club Valley Park parents were able to have the opportunity to interact with each other and better understand wats to help their daughters navigate through the crucial years of young adolescence. It also provided an opportunity for parents to examine their parenting style, gain insight into how to relate to daughters and develop a partnership with other parents.

Did the project fulfill that purpose? If so, how? Absolutely! One of the best statements that exemplifies that was made when a parent said, "Can we still keep meeting even after they've left this building?" and several other parents added, "That would be great!" That comment resulted in the parents developing a support network amongst those participating in the Queen Bees & Wanna Bees book talks and a request for future book talks.
