Computer-based data collection equipment
Blue Valley Northwest High School

What was the purpose of this project? We use computer-based data collection in physics on a regular basis. Most of our data collection probes require an interface between it and the computer. This project was to acquire some extra interfaces [2] so that we have enough to run 8 lab groups at the same time.

Did the project fulfill that purpose? If so, how? Yes, we were able to acquire two additional LabPro interfaces.

Please include the number of students involved in this project, grade levels and subject areas covered. All physics students [grades 11 & 12] utilize this equipment on a regular basis in class. AP chemistry also uses computer-based data collection.

Describe how Foundation funds and this project benefited students. The addition of two LabPros ensure that all lab groups have working equipment and allows the lab groups to stay small [4-5 students per lab group].

Do you feel this project should be replicated in other schools throughout the district? Please explain. Any high school physics course which utilizes the computer-based laboratory philosophy would benefit from having the necessary equipment in ample supply.

Other comments: The ability to graph real-time data on the computer as it is being collected help students to visualize physics concepts and therefor make them easier to learn.
