Leadership/Mentor Program Overland Trail Middle
What was the purpose of this project?
The purpose of this on-going project is to provide a point of contact for new and incoming 6th grade students at OTMS as well as develop leadershp skills in our 7th and 8th grade students.
Did the project fulfill that purpose? If so, how?
Beginning with our Training Day in mid-August, our mentors have put to practical use their mentoring skills as they continue to connect with their 6th grade mentees.
Please include the number of students involved in this project, grade levels and subject areas covered.
All sixth grade students, as well as 7th and 8th graders new to OTMS have been assigned a mentor. We have approximately 25 mentor/leaders in both 7th and 8th grade.
Describe how Foundation funds and this project benefited students.
The Mentor/Leader Tranining Day, the cost of which was partially funded by the foundation, provided a uniquely valuable experience for about fifty 7th and 8th grade students, who, in turn, will potentially impact the entire school.
Do you feel this project should be replicated in other schools throughout the district? Please explain.
I'm confident that any school with a mentor/leadership program would benefit academically as well as socially/emotionally.
