Summer Intervention Success in Blue Valley

Nearly 150 students in grades 2nd -8th from across the Blue Valley district participated in this year's summer intervention program hosted at Blue Valley Middle School and Blue River Elementary School . Students who needed additional help in math or r eading were invited to attend the summer session. Students in need of financial aid were provided a scholarship funded by the Blue Valley Educational Foundation.

Students were in classrooms with 8-10 peers and had ninety minutes of math and ninety minutes of r eading during the morning sessions. The class size allowed students to be actively involved in each day's lesson. They got to know their peers and build their self-confidence.

"While we have the statistics that show growth in both math and reading for each of these students, it is the growth in their self-confidence and self-esteem that really sets the students up for success in the coming school year," said Bob Kreifels, Executive Director of School Administration.

"The students who participate in this program are here to learn and when I jokingly offer them another week of school they are all enthusiastically in favor of that," said Kreifels. "That is a real testament to the success of this program."
