FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Blue River Elementary students are going "Above and Beyond"

At Blue River there are a variety of math manipulatives for a variety of ages and learning levels thanks to a grant funded by the Blue Valley Educational Foundation. These manipulatives can be checked out from their gifted teacher and grant author Ann Nelson. The manipulatives are available for all grade levels, cater to small groups and are easy for students and  teachers to use.

One of the objectives from the district's strategic plan is "What do we do when the student already knows the information?" The math manipulatives are in direct response to this need.

"The manipulatives engage students individually or in small groups and challenge those students who need more," said Nelson

For example, a student ready for algebra can work with the Equate games providing hands-on visuals on how to balance an equation. The manipulatives also work with multiple intelligences and learning styles. The example Nelson provided was ordering a book on Oragami for the visual and hands-on learner.

The selected manipulatives can be used individually or in small groups to increase, challenge and expand learning helping students go "Above and Beyond."
